Laptop Projector

A laptop projector guide with basic information about projectors and screens.

A laptop projector works exactly as you might expect it to – it projects the images from a laptop right onto a larger projection screen.  Common uses for a laptop projector include corporate presentations, business conferences, school classrooms, training sessions and lessons in schools and workplaces, and even home theater situations.

Many people like to unleash the full potential of the LCD laptop projector in such situations by attaching audio devices from their laptops into a digital sound system for a surround sound environment.  People compare this to having a mini-theater at home.

As far as the use of a digital laptop projector in business settings and classroom situations goes, this is widely popular, and increasingly so by the year as the technology becomes more prevalent in these environments.  The advantages to using a laptop projector as opposed to an older video projector really stem from the fact that laptops enable such presentations to be interactive, making audiences far more attentive and active with respect to the discussion at hand.

It also gives the presenter a polished and organized presentation, winning the presenter some style points if it’s being made for something like a business proposal.  Sometimes it’s the little things that go a long way when it comes to getting a deal done, and the polished presentation that a laptop projector enables might just impress the other party enough to the point where things happen as a result.

Laptop projectors these days are small and lightweight, and many portable laptop projectors are especially convenient for those who are always out and about.  These are ideal for salespeople using them for Powerpoint presentations while they’re traveling on the road.

When looking for a laptop projector, you’ll find a vast range when it comes to size, weight, brightness, and picture resolution. If you plan to do a fair bit of traveling with your laptop projector, make sure that you purchase a portable laptop projector.  The weight and size of the unit will be integral here, as you’ll want a lightweight laptop projector that’s easy to travel with. If you’re looking at a unit inside a store, try lifting it yourself to see how much it weighs.  Keep in mind that you’ll also be carrying your laptop computer and its case with it, so do your best to envision a situation where you’re carrying all of these items at once.

The next factor that you’ll want to take note of is the brightness and resolution.  The brightness of a typical laptop projector will range from 1,000 to 4,000 lumens, but don’t shy away if you find a laptop projector with 1,000 lumens.  This should actually be enough if you’re presenting in a small to medium sized room. If you’ll be presenting in larger rooms, though, you may want to consider upping the brightness specs of the laptop projector that you buy to one with 4,000 lumens.

Laptop projectors comes in many resolutions, but the two most common laptop projector resolutions are SVGA, which is 800 x 600 pixels, and XGA, which is 1024 x 768 pixels.  If you’re looking for an HD laptop projector, don’t be put off by the SVGA and XGA ones.  They’ll do more than enough for you, especially if you have an LCD monitor, which generally already projects a great picture quality from the laptop. If your laptop projector matches your laptop resolution, the picture quality on the projector will be even better.

The newest laptop projectors range in price from $700 to $4000, and they can sometimes cost even more for the newest, high quality lightweight portable laptop projectors .  LCD projector prices will vary by brands as well. For example, an Acer Projector might start at $700, while higher end BenQ Projectors start at $2000.  BenQ produces the smallest wireless projector and the world’s first 10,000:1 contrast ratio projector.

There are a many other brands to choose from if you’re looking for a relatively cheap laptop projector.  Some of these include Epson, Hitachi, Panasonic, and Dell, to name a few.

Just remember the basics when you buy your laptop LCD projector – size, weight, brightness and resolution.  As long as they all meet your needs, you’ll be good to go.  Good luck with any presentations these may involve, and we hope the picture quality is as high as we think it’ll be.
