Portable Projector Screen

A laptop projector guide with basic information about projectors and screens.

Let’s take a look at the portable projector screen, which is a bit different than the projector screen that you probably remember, dating back to your childhood.  Found in nearly every classroom and used in conjunction with an overhead projector, it was commonly used to project images from slides for students as the teacher went through lessons.  Times have changed, and the portable projector screen is now used to broadcast digital messages for educational, business, and entertainment purposes.

In just about every situation you encounter, a portable projector screen will be uniformly white, as it’s crucial that it avoids any discolorations that could occur. The benefit of using a portable projection screen is that since it’s portable, you can bring it anywhere whenever you want to transport it.

If you’re a businessman on the go, you’ll be very well prepared to transport a portable projector screen with you for each and every presentation that you need to give.  If you’re a professor, a teacher, or even a (very rich!) student, this could greatly benefit you.  You’ll be able to give presentations anywhere, regardless of the technology enabled by the room you’re in.  No longer will you need to worry about that pull down screen that once dominated every classroom setting, as the new line of portable rear projection screens has enabled easy access from anywhere.

On the fun side of things, you and your friends will get the best multimedia experience anywhere and everywhere you want to, as long as you have access to a laptop computer, a laptop projector, and, naturally, a portable projector screen.  Add in a surround sound device and you really do have the makings of a home theater.  Many prefer to use a portable DLP projector for such purposes, as the picture quality is amongst the best.

If you’re planning to purchase a portable projector screen, I’m going to tell you some things to look for so that you’re sure to get a solid deal.

There are many types of portable projector screens offered by different brands.  Some of the most popular ones are the Elite portable projector screen, Draper projectors, the Da-Lite portable projection screen, and the Optoma portable projector.  Other brands like Epson, Ultra, and Duet all make their own portable projector screens too.  Some of these are front projection screens, while others are rear projection screens.

Portable projector screens have a many other options that you’ll want to consider too.  Some of the other features involving each screen include:

  • accessibility: is it mobile or a folding projection screen?
  • transportation:  do you have to carry it around, or does it come with a case?
  • tripod: is a tripod included for your projector?
  • is it an HD compatible portable projector screen?
  • is it a portable rear projection screen or the standard front projector?

One great portable projector screen is the Gemmy inflatable widescreen deluxe outdoor movie screen.  As it inflates on its own, this is optimal for viewing in outside situations like parties, weddings, sporting events, and more.

The price range for a portable projector screen is pretty wide  and can range anywhere from $70 to $2,000.  The Elite tripod screen, for example, costs just $70.  Naturally, the dimensions and the picture quality will be lower than they’d be on more expensive units.

The bottom line is that you should go with something that fits your requirements as far as budget, technical details, and portability features go.  Read up on reviews, and try to see the portable projector screen in action before buying if it’s possible to do so.
